The Ruins, Hood River, OR Wedding

Erin and Lucas married in Hood River, east of Portland, Oregon. It’s home to the medieval-like wedding venue with the fitting name “The Ruins,” and it is most certainly just that - The gorgeous outdoor amphitheater looks like a courtyard from 1,000 years ago with romantic and earthy walls equipped with high windows in the walls that tower above you while standing in the ruins. Having a wedding here is a magical experience!! Here’s their website if you’re looking for amazing locations to get married in Oregon!

Where to begin explaining this wedding?? Each detail of the day meant so much - Like, everything had a purpose behind it, and I fell in love with the way this wedding was put together by some very awesome people who brought friends and family from all over the U.S. to our little Hood River.

I should first start by saying that the grooms brother/best man did indeed put on a dress for the ultimate first look prank.

If you look at any photos from this wedding, look at those because I nearly peed myself I was laughing SO hard. Lucas of course assumed he was about to be turning around to see his beautiful bride standing behind him. He thought it was just a normal first look…but his brother was indeed behind him in a gorgeous dress (that was way too small so the groomsmen securely tied him up with an iPhone cord.)

Yup. Oh and the actual first look is pretty damn cute too.

“sister hood of the traveling garter”

Having purchased a piece of the garter during her travels in France, two of her dearest friends had worn it for their own weddings prior. Hence the sweetest tradition and “sister hood.” More of their noteworthy details were the pages from the Harry Potter books DIY’d into epic TABLE RUNNERS! Being a huge HP fan myself (I may have read the whole series a few times over,) I was kind of in heaven during their candle lit dinner! Also, Erins shoes were thrifted, and please do note the dog collar she made for their dog, Freya.

Tip for future bride/grooms:

Around the back is a super neat window looking down into the the ruins. We used this spot for Lucas and Erin’s first look and their vow exchange before the ceremony.

Definitely scroll down to the first look photos to check those out! I loved that Erin and Lucas decided that they wanted their vows to be just for themselves, so they privately exchanged them, I cried, they cried, we were basically drowning. It’s fine.

The night ended with a TOOON of dancing and partying which took place indoors after dinner was put away. I loved this space so much, and I always love taking a million dancing pics and candids during the reception.

This gallery is a quarter of the photos I ended up delivering, but for the sake of this post, and my sanity, I somehow managed to refrain from putting ALL of them up.

Erin & Lucas put together a dream team, and I would recommend each and every one of them to my brides and grooms because they were all so thoughtful and a joy for me to work with!
