La Jolla, San Diego Engagement Session

Kenslie & Jackson’s La Jolla, San Diego Engagement Session

I wanted these engagement photos to reflect both the pure joy that radiates off these two when they’re together and the deep connection they’ve made not just as a couple but parents within the 6 years they’ve officially been together. Their story began as a friendship which eventually blossomed into a long distance relationship. Then finally, creating a beautiful family together in Wisconsin. Now being engaged for 2 years, I was honored when I got an email in my inbox from Kenslie inquiring about engagement photos. I instantly connected with her on the love for meaningful details in life. She explained how they are planning their 2024 wedding under a full moon on the 3rd anniversary of their engagement and would travel to Southern California for this wedding because that’s where their love took off.

So when I happened to be in San Diego this spring working on the exact dates they would be traveling from their home state to go on venue tours in SoCal, it was pretty much meant to be that we could shoot their engagement photos then.

So grateful to have been able to take these portraits for them and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next year at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego!

Windanseas Beach: A La Jolla, San Diego Engagement Session Location

After I sent a list of a few San Diego Engagement session locations, K&J ultimately decided on this stunning spot since their proposal took place ocean-side and La Jolla held fond memories for the two of them. I love when a location for engagement shoots can hold sentimental value for the couple and I was overjoyed to shoot at this beautiful location. The rock formations, soft waves rolling up when the tide is low and the entire landscape was a perfect backdrop.

We photographed at sunset when the clouds had just rolled in - it created a moody yet soft vibe to their photos which as a Portland Oregon photographer, I love.

Windansea beach is a popular spot for surfers and is located below Neptune Place in La Jolla between Westbourne Street and Palomar Avenue. You can access the beach Windansea Beach via two sets of stairs on either ends of the long beach. They will take you down to the sandstone cliffs where you can choose to scramble down off the rocks if the tide is low. Parking for this location is limited with abot fifteen free parking spots above the beach by Nautilus Street, but if those are taken there is street parking spaces within the neighborhoods.
